Weekend wonders

Friday night I went out with my aunt, cousins, and a friend from church. We started off at the National Museum - there was a wedding dress exhibition from London. Wedding dresses from the past two hundred years were on display.

Gwen Stefani's wedding dress

A beautiful dress - notice the enormous train!

After looking at wedding dresses and going out for dinner, we headed down to Clark Quay. Currently it is the Mid-Autumn Festival; it is a Chinese celebration - still not exactly sure what they are celebrating...but is sure is fun! Along the river there were hundreds of paper lanterns.

Part of Chinese tradition is knowing what animal you are. Depending on when you were born, your fortune is told by the corresponding animal. I was a horse and my fortune was extremely depressing; although I do not believe in those sorts of things, it was fun to read.

Some beautiful dancers - they were dressed in authentic Chinese garb and I am sure they were all very hot.

A magician from Japan.

Enjoy a street performer. Talk about multi-tasking!

Fall Break is here

This past weekend was my school's Fall Break. It was very nice to have a long weekend - I was able to sleep in, rest, relax, and do some sight seeing! Friday and Saturday were very low key days. After school on Friday I came home and just crashed :) Saturday I stayed at home, did some lesson planning, hung out with my cousins, and even got my first hair cut! Sunday was one of my cousin's birthdays - we went to church, went out to eat, went swimming, and got some ice cream......

But we did not just get any old ice cream...we found Dairy Queen! I have been in Singapore for just over two months, and I believe this has been the best part so far :)

Just enjoying my M&M Blizzard.

While we were waiting for our blizzards, we found some fun garbage cans.
We found an elephant, parrot, and several other funny animals.

Sunday evening I met up with some friends from school and went to the zoo. Singapore has a normal zoo and it also has a night safari. I went to the night safari! There were elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, and many native Asian animals. One can walk the zoo or take a tram around to view the animals. My favorite part of the zoo was watching the fire show - these men threw fire, ate fire, spit fire...it did not look safe!

A fun zebra chair I found.

Enjoy part of the fire show!

Monday was a day at the beach! Sentosa is an island south of Singapore, but is still part of Singapore. It was a cloudy day but it was a perfect day to relax and enjoy the day off.

Sitting on the beach looking at the harbor at all the ships.

One of the resorts on the island.

Singapore is known for having odd photography. Sure enough, while on the beach there was a couple (woman wearing a wedding dress and a man wearing dress pants, top hat and no shirt) getting their picture taken....weird?!

I would say it was a good, relaxing weekend :)

Tidbits

Another Saturday is here - THANK YOU LORD! This weekend is extra special because it is Fall Break - no school Monday or Tuesday. I am very much looking forward to sleeping in and not doing much at all!!

Below are some tidbits...ENJOY :)

MRT station - this tells what train to take to your desired location.

All aboard! As they say in Singapore, "Please mind the platform gap."

Look! Monkeys!

Isn't he cuuuute?!

Dinner one night. Kenny Rogers Roasters - the decor was his albums and many pictures of him, oddly enough they were not playing his music.

Some creations my students made...aren't they creative?!

Singapore sure does love its rules :)
