With only 17.5 days of school left, I wanted to take a look back at the past nine months. Below are some of my favorite memories - bringing either tears of laughter or tears of frustration.
- One of my students walks up to me after recess and says, "Hey Miss Jorgenson, feel my arm pits. They're sweaty!"
- One morning, one of my students did not come to school. Being that he is always there, I was a little concerned. After the office called home, mom said he got on the bus. Well come to find out, he had fallen asleep on the bus and no one woke him! By the time he woke up, he was at a different school. Singapore school buses work differently than those in the states. Anyway, the bus brought him to school and I went down to get him. He told me, "Miss Jorgenson, I fell asleep on the bus! And when I woke up I was at a different school. But don't worry, I made tons of new friends!"
- While on lunch duty, a kindergarten boy raises his hand and I ask him what I can do. He says, "Miss Jorgenson, why are you so beautiful?" I smile and respond with, "I guess that is how God made me." "Okay!" was his small but enthusiastic response.
- My classroom started on fire. What more excitement could one ask for?!
- At the beginning of the year, I had seven boys. I affectionately referred to them as my Seven Dwarfs.
- Happy: Smiles, laughs & skips all the time
- Doc: A born leader. Has such a heart for the Lord and a heart for having fun.
- Sleepy: Everyday for the entire first month of school, he asked when was naptime.
- Grumpy: Despite the fact that he is actually a very happy boy, he always looks like he is angry.
- Sneezy: Everyday for the first two weeks of school, he had a bloody nose.
- Dopey: Same boy who fell asleep on the bus :)
- Bashful: Had trouble, and still does, looking me in the eye and answering questions
- The first day I wear my glasses to school, it was like I shaved my hair off! I was attacked by 13 second graders all screaming, "MISS JORGENSON, YOU ARE WEARING GLASSES!" Well thank you children, I was not aware of that.
- While getting in line for the end of the day, the following conversation occurred.
- Student: "Miss Jorgenson, where do you sleep?
- Me: "In my bed. At my house."
- Student: "You mean you don't live at school?"
- Me: "Nope. I have a life outside of school. I go to the movies, I go running, I even go to the grocery store!?"
- Another student not apart of the conversation but was listening: "Oh! So that is why you always wear different clothes!"
- Students are always trying to figure out how old their teacher is. Kids have guessed my age; the range has been anywhere from twelve to eighty. I sure must age well!
